I suppose it's a bit mean to criticise something
that's free, but Yahoo has just wasted several hours of my time
and given me something worse than I had.
I have several
free yahoo accounts and have several associated free web pages on
uk.geocities.com which I use for testing purposes.
I've recently
noticed that on uploading new content, I'm left with an error on the
page as follows:
Line: 4 Char: 3 Error: Syntax
error Code: 0
It seems this relates in some way to
the advertising junk that you apparently have to live with when you
sign up for your free web space, but was noticeably absent on my uk.geocities
pages. Something must have changed recently - and looking
at the source on the web page, there is HTML in there which Yahoo
have added and this must be causing problems.
Going back into
my geocities account (which I haven't done in ages as I normally FTP
my content up) I find that it thinks the website isn't setup. So I
follow the setup for GeoCities Free and find it now lives at
www.geocities.com and
I then upload identical content (using their file manager) and
it loads OK, but I now have the promised irritating advertising
junk up the RHS of the page. Worse, it seems you have to pay for an
upgrade to get the ability to FTP - which means uploading files a
few at a time.
Not very good!
